Pelecanus onocrotalus
The great white pelican is a large bird, also known as the eastern white pelican and pink pelican.
The great white pelican is highly sociable and often forms large flocks. It is well adapted for aquatic life.
All Pelicans have big beaks and a throat bag under it.
In the throat bag, the pink pelican can take a sip of 13 liters of water with fish.
The Pelican eats around 300 kg fish per year.
Length: 1.40–1.75 m (4.6–5.7 ft),
wingspan: 2.45–2.95 m (8.0–9.7 ft),
weight: 10–11 kg (22–24 lb).
beak: 20 - 47 cm long
Plumage white, with pink facial patch and legs.
This Pelican lives 15-20 years in the wild, 40-60 years in the zoo.
