About Elisabeth Derichs
Its not what you look at that matters, Its what you see. ---- Henry David Thoreau ---- I love to make pictures - to capture the moment. These magical moments give us memories. People tell me always: - you have good eyes - you see things I would never see. A friend once said to me: - think about where this talent comes from, I knew immediately what she meant. I grew up as the fourth child of deaf parents. Even though my parents were deaf - we had a nice childhood, a childhood with love. Although it was a difficult situation, different than my friends families. My siblings and I learned quickly to take on more responsibility, we grew up much faster than other kids. My mother compensated for her lack of hearing with seeing and feeling. She saw things I would have never learned to see were it not for her. She told me always: - watch, notice, and study what is going on around you, see and feel how wonderful the world is - She also taught me how to dance. On Sundays, she turned our radio on, put her hand on the radio and after few seconds feeling the song rhythm, she danced with me through our large kitchen. It was a wonderful time, we danced the charleston, the foxtrot, and the waltz. Later my brothers and I taught her Rock n Roll dances. Thank you Mama - for teaching me - to see and to feel - how wonderful the world is! I see with your eyes - I see as you taught me to see. www.elisabeth-derichs.com
