Description
"Krefelder Zoo"
The dragonfly had just climbed out of the water to molt the last time when I found it.
I was curios, because I know it was a dragonfly, but it had green duckweed on it’s body, a fin on its tail and no wings.
I had never seen this before. Luckily, a young couple came over to see what I was photographing, pulled out a phone and googled it. It was a dragonfly larva.
- At the beginning is an egg. -
The dragonfly larva lives under water and molts up to 12 times as it grows.
The dragonfly climbs out of the water for the last molt.
Approximately 3 hours later the larva becomes a dragonfly ready to fly.
What remains of the empty skin from the last molt - is called the Exuvien.
